As a business owner, do you have a quote that inspires you?
Whether it’s “Live, Laugh, Love”, or something slightly more profound, a quote can be massively motivating.
One of my favourite quotes is one I integrate into everything I do within my agency. It reminds me of why I do what I do.
“Everyone has an invisible sign hanging from their neck saying, ‘make me feel important.’ Never forget this message when working with people.” – Mary Kay Ash
I love everything about this. Making people feel important is crucial to a good working relationship.
This doesn’t mean being fake or lying to somebody so they feel an inflated sense of importance. (Cynics might disagree with me here!)
For me, the quote speaks to the universal need that people have to feel seen and heard. We all want to be listened to. And we should be.
When I work with clients, I want to make them feel important...because they are!
It can be easy to overlook a quote as a catchy phrase coined by somebody smart. But it’s really much more than that.
You can tell a lot about somebody from the words that resonate with them.
A quote is an affirmation about our own beliefs. It’s a thought to identify with. It’s a source of inspiration and a prompt for action.
For some, a quote is a promise to live by.
